Trump Invites Loved Ones of Attacked National Guard Soldiers to White House
Former President Donald Trump announced on the weekend that he has invited the family of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the executive mansion.
He noted that he conversed with her parents and they were “heartbroken”.
Details on the Devastating Shooting
Specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a violent incident on last Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her colleague, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, twenty-four years old, is still in the hospital in serious condition.
Vigils across West Virginia have occurred in their honor.
White House Call
The commander-in-chief said he’s proposed a visit to the White House for the loved ones of both members of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a tough thing, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” the president informed reporters. “And likewise with him, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Response
Attendees assembled over the past few days at a local school in West Virginia to remember Beckstrom.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the state guard as part of the president’s government program to support public safety in DC.
Honoring Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that educators wished for. She carried herself with inner fortitude, a warm expression and a upbeat demeanor that lifted those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of her former high school, informed the media. “She was kind, considerate and always willing to help others.”
Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Actions and Policy Adjustments
Officials have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with one count of murder and two counts of attempted murder while carrying a weapon.
The tragedy caused the government to pause asylum processing and halt providing entry permits to holders of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of the city, began his service in February 2019 and is a graduate of Musselman High, according to the news agency.
He remains under medical supervision and is “battling to survive”, West Virginia governor Patrick Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed a news show that she aimed to visit Wolfe’s family.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a law enforcement officer with excellence, per the state guard.
“She had a lot of compassion and she certainly had bravery,” Morrisey informed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to last forever.”
