Tottenham Manager Thomas Frank Calls Vicario Critics 'Not Genuine Supporters'

The Cottagers Start Strong to Beat Spurs and Increase Tension on the Manager

Spurs fans who jeered keeper Guglielmo Vicario were informed later "those individuals can't be real Tottenham fans" by manager Thomas Frank.

Spurs conceded two scores in the first six minutes to lose 2-1 to Fulham, registering their 10th top-flight at home defeat of 2025.

But the primary talking point was the visitors' next score when the keeper gave away possession far beyond his area.

He ventured out to deal with a high pass and carried the ball towards the touchline.

However, instead of booting it into touch, the Italy international turned and attempted to clear, but lost his footing as the ball skimmed off Wilson and was controlled by Josh King.

The forward passed the ball off to Wales midfield player Wilson, who bent a shot into the net from the touchline measured at 36.6 metres.

Seconds later when the ball came to the keeper again, some Spurs fans booed him.

The team were jeered off at half-time, with the club 2-0 behind, and once more at full-time.

A particular of those booing sessions truly angered the manager.

"It came to my attention some of our supporters apparently jeered the situation and booed after, which, in my view is completely unacceptable," the Dane commented about the supporters' reaction to his goalkeeper.

"[They] cannot be true Tottenham supporters that do that. Fair enough jeering following the match, fine, but when we are in play, we are backing each other, we are behind one another going forward."

Kenny Tete had given Fulham a early advantage prior to Wilson's goal – with Mohammed Kudus netting for Tottenham in an improved second period showing.

Ex- Premier League goalkeeper Hart stated that the second goal was "completely preventable".

"I do appreciate the fans' disappointment," the ex-keeper continued. "I am aware the part the keeper is playing. He's a great team player, he is a true leader in the dressing room but ultimately you are going to be judged by your actions.

"He was deeply implicated in what turned out to be the winning goal."

'It's Part of Football, I Can Handle It'

Thomas Frank Stood Up For His Keeper Guglielmo Vicario Following the Game

Italian national team Vicario is in his 3rd season with Tottenham.

He said after the game that he had to take the feedback.

"The second score was a mistake of mine, I take responsibility for that," he said.

"My aim was to clear the ball far and I just hit the ball in a poor way. It was an even bigger challenge to climb."

He said being booed "comes with football".

"I am mature, how can I respond?" he added. "The team can't be affected by the circumstances in the stands. The fans have the right to do as they see fit.

"It's on the team to stay more calm, to focus on our own performance. The team is missing in composure and calmness to overturn results. Today is a poor defeat and it's tough to accept."

'I Was Surprised No One Went Back to the Line'

In spite of Vicario's mistake, it was far from an easy goal for Harry Wilson to score.

Actually it was the next most distant Premier League goal of the campaign – after Tyler Adams' 43.3 yard strike for Bournemouth against Sunderland, which incidentally too came on Saturday.

Wilson stated he was "a little bit taken aback" that he still had an open goal to aim for.

Ten seconds passed between the keeper coming out of his box and the midfielder striking – which was five seconds following the clearance.

"It seemed to me like the goalkeeper was away from the area for ages," Wilson said.

"I was surprised none of the defenders returned to the line. When not one of them covered the goal, my eyes sparked a bit.

"Udogie fell too, which allowed me a little extra opportunity. Then it was solely about trying to achieve the correct connection and get it towards goal. I had a good sense, as soon as it left my foot, that it was heading in."

'During in a Poor Run, All Appears to Work Against You'

Jeering While We Are Still Playing Is Completely Unjustifiable - Frank

Although the keeper's error dominated coverage, this was an overall bad day for Spurs to continue their home ground woes.

The match was their tenth at home defeat of the year in the league, a joint club record matching 1994 and two thousand and three.

They still have home fixtures against Frank's former club the Bees and champions the Reds to come before the close of the season.

Only one of those victories have occurred since the manager took over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer.

"If you are down 2-0 following the opening, there is a huge challenge to climb," stated the boss.

"During in a bad spell, all aspects seems to work against you as well – the opening was a redirected attempt, the second is a mistake from the keeper.

"This result puts us in a position where we have lost another game. Each fixture has a unique story, today we lost in the first six minutes.

"We simply need to continue striving. The later period was significantly improved and hopefully an aspect we can utilize to learn."

Tottenham have been defeated in four straight home London derbies for the first time in the Premier League.

Furthermore they are averaging nine point five shots and 3.2 shots on target per match in the division – their lowest rates on file in a single campaign (dating back to the 2003-04 season).

Former Fulham midfielder Danny Murphy commented that Frank has to ride the storm.

"He's got take the criticism," the pundit remarked. "He's taken a prestigious job at a major team with enormous expectation. There is pressure and duty that accompanies that.

"Their showings at home have been poor and they have to improve {quickly|
