The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Selected the Wrong Popular RPG Show Song

The Mighty Nein, the newest animated adventure from the beloved role-playing group, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It showcases the beloved cast of misfits, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and making their mark, while also hinting at multiple agonizing personal histories for key figures including Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

Overall, the opening appears stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that an element was lost in the song choice.

This sequence uses "Welcome to the Continent", a truly stellar song composed by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece originating from the official score of that title, the second release released by the production company's record label their music brand. It's a great sentimental option, and I suspect that devotees of the second campaign will love its presence.

Personally, The series' opening fails to capture the hype and energy that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "It's Your Turn", written by singer-songwriter Jason Charles Miller, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when co-founder Sam Riegel added lyrics to the tune for the animated Campaign 2 opening in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, Laura Bailey, a co-star, as well as the writer, the song was catchy and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but it was so infectious that I still saved it on my device. This track that knows how to get you pumped before you dive into an episode of adventurous fun.

The show's opening with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the same chords for me. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of this party, I can't help but feel that its tone is a little off.

Of course, the creators has stated that the series will have a few surprises and differences from the actual-play campaign. A tonal change for its intro appears as one of them.

This animated adventure will be released on Prime Video from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to learn about the characters of the second series, the actual play are available on the audio platform and the video site.
