The Blue Jays Earn World Series Meeting Versus the Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

Springer was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the championship in the 2017 season.

The Toronto Blue Jays reached their maiden championship series since the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the seventh game seven of the ALCS.

Trailing 3-1, the star outfielder hit a three-run blast in the seventh, leading the only Canadian franchise in the majors to a 4-3 series victory in the seven-game series. Next up are the Dodgers, who are the reigning title, in the upcoming championship.

"I'm thrilled for this squad, the city, the nation," Springer stated, a star of the Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "This is such an unbelievable moment."

Springer has now hit 23 total October home runs, placing him third on the list behind Ramirez (29) and Altuve (twenty-seven).

"It's hard to imagine another person on planet Earth that I want up in that situation besides George Springer with his October magic," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Seattle, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, are still the only MLB franchise never to appear in a championship series.

Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "without a doubt that it's going to sting" after his club's elimination at Toronto's Rogers Centre, but commended their work throughout the year.

"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we finished on the unsuccessful side of the series," he remarked.

The Blue Jays claimed the title on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and will welcome the Dodgers in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
