Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Support After PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for questions to be asked about his future after a further heavy defeat against the Dutch champions.

Liverpool suffered their 9th defeat in twelve games, marking the club's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.

They were outplayed by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received significant backing from management,” the coach commented.

“It would be nice to reverse this trend and secure a win obviously but when you're coaching a team and struggling then it's typical that doubts arise.”

He added, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I've found myself in a tough spot but it is about time that we changed our fortunes.”

Talks with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to provide details on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“We communicate frequently. They assist to the team and to me and we have those conversations but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they trust me.”

He mentioned, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them since this defeat so far so we'll see.”

Familiar Failings and Player Response

The manager lamented familiar failings from his squad in their European defeat, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the answers. Frankly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” Jones remarked.

“It's simply not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I haven’t experienced a Liverpool team experiencing a spell of this nature with results so bad.”

Jones finished, “However we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And until it is taken away, we'll continue to compete.”

“Our aim is to bring this squad back to where it needs to be, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and why it's known as the top club in the world.”

“But right now, we’re in the shit and it needs to change.”
