Manchester United Poised to Secure German Forward Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are finalising sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.
A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side
Schüller, who has six months left on her deal, has been a consistent goalscorer for both club and country. Having netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 caps for her country. This signing is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.
Her exit from Munich has been anticipated after she appeared to be holding back emotions while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its leading forwards. Per reports, the formalities for the move have now been completed.
Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen the Attack
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major boost to the team's forward line. Schüller has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.
- Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
- She claimed the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Building Momentum at Old Trafford
Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent performances include qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional activity:
- The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability allows her and the team to dominate play from central areas.”
The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can sense how much they [United] have grown in the last few years, competing in one of the most competitive leagues in the world and performing in the top European competition.”
