Following weeks of suspense, schemes and backstabbing, The Celebrity Traitors concludes with a thrilling finale
Spoiler alert - This article reveals key moments from Celebrity Traitors conclusion
Over the course of the show, viewers witnessed eliminations, double-crosses, serious side-eye, and a memorable moment that cut through the overwhelming suspense.
However on the final evening, the final winner of the inaugural Celebrity Traitors was revealed.
From nineteen participants, only five remained: Deceivers and faithfuls competing for the prize.
Soon, the competition tightened to just three: the final players.
In the end, comedian Alan Carr emerged as the winner, in a shocking result that went viral and made him tearful.
"This has been destroying me, I'm so sorry," he declared, admitting to the other players that he was actually one of the deceivers. "I'm an awful human being."
"You played amazingly," they comforted him. "It's all right."
Social media quickly erupted with the news. "The worst deceiver being the most effective player," commented one user.
"There could not have been a more iconic ending," wrote a different person, while a third called it "the television highlight of the year."
His chosen charity, a cancer charity, will receive the entire winnings, with the final pot reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
Alan Carr's transformation from comic relief to cold-hearted killer was one of the standout highlights of the season.
However, his victory still shocked viewers in shock, according to industry observers.
"The idea of Alan, among everyone, executing an expert performance in deceit felt just as probable as him maintaining a straight face through his comedy routines."
On subsequent discussions, fellow players explained why no one had truly doubted him.
"Alan could have appeared to breakfast in a green cloak and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor. I was too busy laughing," a player said.
"Most people didn't vote for him because how does one eliminate a person so loveable?" questioned another celebrity.
Carr said he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the show.
"I want to do it again... I doubt it would work a second time!"
The final installment was lengthened to 70 minutes on television. There was a different start than typical episodes, as all the celebs were aware who would appear at the breakfast table.
Viewers heard particularly inspiring, and very un-Traitors-esque music, as we recapped key scenes from each of the finalists' time in the castle.
True to form, the comedian provided some of the most memorable lines.
"To be honest, I started this game a bit of an anxious mess. I've thrown some really good friends to save myself, I've eliminated beloved figures openly. Apparently I'm a better liar and traitor than I believed."
Meanwhile, another contestant noted that reaching the conclusion was "way more stressful than playing for a national team", while someone else said he was "completely amazed" to have made it so far.
In the beginning of the finale, several players appeared to be making a bid to become the fashion standout of the competition, replacing the previously eliminated fashionable contestant.
Carr emerged at the morning meal resembling a 1950s US chat show host in a checked maroon suit, later switching into a bejewelled white suit.
However, he got out-jacketted by another contestant's burgundy formal wear. What a look.
Following this was the competition, with the final players getting on board a train named - naturally - The Deceivers' Railway.
The challenge involved destroying portraits of former contestants. Spare a thought for one participant who managed to get hit on the head multiple times by the lid of a substantial container.
Before long, it was time for the elimination discussion.
Two traitors did a pinky promise in advance, pledging to support each other. "We've progressed significantly, I won't throw him under a bus," stated a player, while their partner simply laughed.
And one did stick to their agreement. Yet, managing to stay under the radar for the majority of the competition, their partner still got the most votes.
The remaining traitor appeared he was in a world of pain to be the final deceiver remaining. "Being alone, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, without direction."
Online platforms and onlookers were similarly upset.
"I did NOT want this contestant to be eliminated. A truly loveable traitor," said an observer.
"Your legacy will remain in the show's legacy," posted another user.
However, there remained no time to dwell on this departure. Before long, they were at the final stage - which was what we were really all here for.
The final four stood over the fire pit. Meanwhile, the partnership broke down, precisely when it was most crucial, in a truly WTF moment.
A player was eliminated in dramatic fashion - following a surprising decision from their partner, who turned against them.
"It hurts to be betrayed at the final moment like that," said the eliminated player. Subsequently, we learned that if they ever communicate, the eliminated contestant refers to their former ally by a betrayer's name.
Ultimately, only three contestants were still competing: the last participants.
A contestant, looking incredibly smug, chose to conclude the competition. The same decision was made by another, and everything depended on the third, who did the same - resulting in the traitor was the winner.
According to commentators, the scene where the other players consoled the champion was "compelling television". "I anticipate it will be a contender for outstanding scene at television honors," they said.
Happily, the winner soon recovered from his bout of tears, and was able to enjoy the moment.
"What a rollercoaster. I thought I was terrible at deception, I had no poker face and here I am the champion," he said.
And he even joked about the memorable elimination - his close ally in an early episode - by reaching over the host in the final scene and making contact.
"There's something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The last few weeks of celebrity gossiping, scheming and sometimes unexpected moments may feel like a bizarre fantasy. But it really did occur. It will be remembered fondly.
