Barry Manilow to Undergo Surgery for Lung Cancer.

Barry Manilow has revealed that he received a diagnosis with cancer of the lung and is set to have an operation.

Early-Stage Diagnosis

The octogenarian performer, known for a string of high-spirited hits from "I Write the Songs" cemented his status as one of pop music’s most beloved showmen, will have surgery to remove part of his lung in an effort to combat the illness, which is at an early phase.

“As many of you know, I recently endured six weeks of a bronchial infection followed by a return of another five weeks.

“Despite the fact that I was past the infection and returned to the spotlight for my residency, my attentive medical team requested an MRI just to be certain that everything was OK.

“The MRI detected a malignant lesion on my lung that needs to be removed. It’s incredible chance (and a skilled doctor) that it was found so early.”

Postponed Performances

He has postponed a string of upcoming live performances, but stated he would be back on stage by Valentine’s Day for his long-running engagement in Las Vegas.

He added: “The doctors do not believe it has traveled and I’m having examinations to support their conclusion. So, that’s it. No chemotherapy. No radiation. Just chicken soup and classic TV.

“I’m looking forward to until I return to my home away from home in Las Vegas for our February love-themed shows.”

Professional and Personal Journey

Manilow is presently in his 16th year of a concert series in Nevada. The singer has spent decades in the limelight and revealed he is gay in 2017, after marrying his partner of many years, Garry Kief confidentially in 2014.

The duo were in a clandestine romance for more than 35 years. In 2023, Manilow spoke about how crucial Kief had been to him during his ascent to stardom in the 1970s.

“As my career exploded, it was just hectic. And, you know, coming home to an lonesome hotel suite, you can land in a lot of difficulty if you, you know, you’re alone night after night,” he said.

“But I found my partner right around when it was exploding. And I didn’t have to go back to those empty hotel rooms. I had a partner to cry with or to celebrate with.

“I wish that young people don’t have to go back to those rooms by themselves, because you get yourself in trouble. I never did. But it was pretty lonely until I met Garry. And then it was joyful.”
