A Heap of Anime News Landed Over the Holidays
The Yuletide season provide a plethora of activities considerably more enjoyable than scanning the headlines: unwrapping gifts, feasting on holiday treats, and employing deep breathing to refrain from snapping at family members. It is wished you managed to do all these things and more. However, the world of entertainment doesn't take a break, and this is notably true for the realm of anime. Many exciting news items came out during the holidays, and should you didn't see a few, here is a compilation of the biggest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Set to Continue (In 2027)
Truly the most shocking announcement, the notorious troubled production that was season 3 of One-Punch Man proved insufficient to halt further production. Season 3 will be back with a second cour in 2027—such a distant date they might as well have called it season 4. Even more shocking, animation studio J.C. Staff will remain in charge. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which might be a good sign. However, the main art for the second cour is identical to the one used for season 3, just with characters Saitama and Garou facing different directions. This makes me think that, at this point, they could be trolling the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime From Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a name for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the superb artistry of its output but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Surprisingly, until now, it had not produced an anime adapted from a manga from Shonen Jump, arguably the most famous magazine in the field. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo achieved a huge following when it debuted in 2022 after just a handful of installments, but then went into a lengthy break due to the mangaka's health issues. When it returned with a lighter schedule, the series demonstrated it maintained the fans' affection and positive sentiment, and now everyone is thrilled about the upcoming KyoAni adaptation.
Kingdom Its Sixth Season Has a Sequel In Production
Kingdom is the top-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is aside from One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English localization, but the anime has been running for a while, and season 6 was another outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as in production, and it will probably debut in 2026.
Science Saru Will Adapt A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio known for the superior craftsmanship of its work, Science Saru has delivered masterpieces of the quality of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be taking on the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, which is based on the real historical figure of Fatima, an prominent woman and thinker in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. From the trailer, the anime named Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and fascinating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Scheduled to launch in July 2026, this one will absolutely be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two
Right after the conclusion of its twenty-fourth episode, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be getting a sequel. Based on the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki brings to life the manga by Yura Urushibara. The new season of the anime will adapt the Nikko Kegon Falls Arc, but a concrete release date has not yet been announced.
